| At the beginning of the year our class filled out a pre-assessment, then a few days ago our class filled out the same assessment. These were the differences in some of my answered. What is Art? At first I thought art was something someone makes for others to enjoy or just to communicate something. Now I know that art is anything that someone makes for fun or to send a message or to express themselves ect. Before it took this class I thought art had to be something serious, deeply thought provoking in order to be considered art. Now I understand that there are many different types of art. Some art is serious and some is thought provoking, so if just for others enjoyment. I now have learned that art is what ever the artist makes for any type of purpose whether it be just for fun or to send a message. What are some reasons artists would need to use observation in their art? My first thoughts were simply to make art realistic. My answer now is different, artists can use observation to make something look realistic, to correctly represent the object, for different types of art like scientific drawings or sculptures or to make the art not realistic like in cartoons. The use of observation is a very important tool that an artist uses, I did not really enjoy or appreciate observational art before I learned its uses. I thought that the only reason an artist would need to observe something was to make it be realistic As much as I at first did not like to use observation it became an important skill I now posses. What is artistic style? List as many as possible. My first answer literally is one line, it is the way an artist makes art unique, their style. I now have learned about artistic style as like the way the art is created or a stylistic way the art looks. I also listed cubism realism impressionism abstract art ect. I really think this is the most different of my answers because I went from just kinda making something up to a real answer that list some real techniques. I feel like this definitely shows what I have learned about artistic styles. I used to not know even what artistic style was, now I know what it is and how it is used in art. What is the point of this class, what do/did you (think you will) get out of it? I wrote that the point of the class was to learn about art and I would get better at art. My second answer says that the point of the class is to teach us about art and different types and components of art. I also said that I learned about the different types and styles of art, uses of different materials, a little art history, and about elements of art like proportions and focus and how to set up the scene so the art keeps attention and about how to use vanishing lines and more elements that are used in art. I got so much more out of this class then I first assumed I would learn. At first I thought I would just learn how to draw better or make my art better. I ended up learning about techniques and tools and types of art. This class exceeded my exceptions and I really enjoyed it. |

For this project I was inspired by the Furdan Feline: panthero leo leo sculpture at the NC Art Museum. I really liked this sculpture because it was unique and I liked the idea of the animals in different colors and patterns. I was inspired by this art work to create an artwork of my own. When I saw this piecep I knew that I wanted I create something with animals and something with many different colors and patterns. I decided to make a poster of a bunch of different types of animals in different colors and patterns. I drew the animals on posterboard and was planning on painting or drawing the patterns, but my teacher (Mr. Sands) suggested useing wall paper or wrapping paper for the patterns instead. I liked the idea of useing this as my medium so I looked through the wall paper samples book to find colors and patterns. I then traced my drawings on trace paper and used the traced drawing to cut out the shapes of the animals on wallpaper. While constructing my part of this project, a giant ice cream cone for our life sized I Spy for the courtyard, I took three specific risks. The first was to construct the ice cream cone out of plaster rather than to paint it on card board and hang it out side. I had never used plaster before, but I had seen how complicated it could be. I really enjoyed using plaster but found it did have its set backs. On the bright side it looked nice as a finished product and it was relatively easy to manipulate. However, it cracked as it dried some of the time creating problems and it had to be put on in strips which was time consuming. I took the second risk by constructing the ice cream and the cone separately. I constructed the cone out of plaster and paper curled into a cone shape, the top was plaster over a balloon. The risk was putting the balloon on top of the cone because I had to fit it without it cracking. This went very smoothly however and the balloon only cracked on the bottom where it was not visibly. Lastly I took a risk as mentioned in the below post about hiding the ice cream cone in the courtyard. See the below post for more on that. Any how I do not have a picture of this project other than the one featured in the below post :( oops!
Go read the below post! For my destruction project I technically did not destroy my art... That being said, a piece of my art was destroyed. How is this possible??? For my artists collaborate project I made a giant ice cream cone, the reason why is another post, which we hid among other art works in the courtyard. Upon being hidden my ice cream cone was stolen. This is a different type of destroying art because the artist (me) did not destroy it. Sadly, this does happens frequently with art you put around the school (simply because it is a high school). Though I do not know what happened to my art work, this does not distress me. Hopefully someone saw it and had as much fun destroying it or stealing it as I had making it. :)
(though I really do wish I had a picture :/ ) Insert mental picture of a giant strawberry ice cream cone with chocolate drizzle :) For our project our group is making an Ispy game, we will be hiding objects we make in the courtyard and we will make cards listing what is hidden. My group is me, Lagni, Michelle, Kaitlyn, Sarah and Stephanie. Our final price will be many differing objects both 2D and 3D hidden in the courtyard for people to find See if you look closely you can see me working on my ice cream cone it is in the pvc tube and there's my hand, oh forget it :) :)
For this project I solved a conceptual problem, because my problem was created by my concept. I had to draw using other peoples scribbles in sharpie and make a picture out of it. I encountered two obstacles when completing this project, first sometimes it was hard to find something in the scribble to draw. Second I had a hard time making sure you could still see the scribble in the final drawing because some times the dark colors made it hard to see the sharpie. I collaborated for this project by using "minioning" meaning getting other people to do something for you so you can make your project. I had 3 people from my group and one of my friends in art 2 draw scribbles for this project, I found this cool because this type of collaboration leads into the next unit artists collaborate where we talked about "minioning". I also asked for feed back from my fellow students when I was unsure if I should add a shape or try and stick to the sharpie lines in different places or if I was unsure how to draw something or unsure of how something looked.
I do not have a recent picture so if this is Mr. Sands grading this post I will try to post a picture on Monday but If one has been taken of my project. This week I started my Artists solve problems final project. For my limitation I chose to have people scribble in sharpie on a price of paper and useing their scribble I had to make a drawing. This limitation make it hard to draw a picture because you have to try to stick to the original lines and it is sometimes hard to find the picture in the scribble. I then painted ithe drawing and around the scribble lines to create my final picture. I think the project is turning out good I have already finished 1 of the drawings (there is 4) it is a mouse. I will be posting a picture of this project later, if you are my teacher please look back for the pictures before gradeing.
Last week we started our artists solve problems unit, and we made Rube Goldberg machines. We watched several example vidios made for advertisements for a Japanese company whose name when spoken sounded like Taco Bell Sushi hence the nickname. The problem our group had to solve was popping a balloon. There will be a video posted later today, if you are my teacher please check back for the video later At the beginning of our artists steal unit we were presented with this question, what is the difference between copying and stealing? Unfortunately I was not in school on that day, but if I were to answer it it would have been a very literal answer like stealing is taking something without asking and is illegal and copying is using an idea someone else has already used or trying to be like a person. I would have totally missed this questions application in art. After this unit i know that copying in art is using an idea or concept that has already been done plane and simple while stealing is taking something and putting your own spin on it and making an old concept or idea new and yours. For my artists steal projects I stole the idea of drawing Swedish Fish and made it my own by drawing them being poured in a fish bowl. I used water color as my medium, I tried to make everything inside the fish bowl lighter and more watery than out side the bowl and I tried to make the water look realistic. The merit of this type of art work comes from the twist you put on it. If I had done a project that was a pun the merit would come from the twist being funny, if it was something that had a really deep meaning behind it the merit would come from that. For this specific piece of art work comes from taking something and making a very literal representation of it, aka putting a candy fish in a fish bowl. :) This is and IN PROGRESS picture of my art work i will post an updated version asap.
